In February 2023, the design office of Transconverter set about developing a smart DRV-03 driver for a power three-phase module of 160 kVA and 320 kVA converter units (CU).

CU are used on high-speed electric trains of the EVS1 /EVS2 “Sapsan” series of the Velaro family, which were developed and manufactured by Siemens AG by order of Russian Railways for operation in Russia.

The driver under development is meant to control power IGBTs (class 65), which are part of the three-phase module of the CU. It is a smart device that has a high-voltage galvanic isolation, forms an optimal IGBT on and off mode, and also performs protective and diagnostic functions. Optical interfaces will be used to transmit input and output signals in the driver under development.

The purpose of the development is import substitution of drivers manufactured by Siemens AG (Germany), which are used in the CU.

It is planned to release a mock-up sample of the DRV-03 driver in September 2023.
