In March 2021 the designed office of Transconverter LLC analyzed data on the contact system voltage of railway which were obtained by using the developed analyzer KS3000 Y2.

The analyzers KS3000 Y2 (manufactured by Transconverter LLC) were installed on 8 pcs. PSN235 Y2 converters in operating areas of 3ES4K (“Volkhov” loco service shed).

Systematic overvoltage of the contact system of railway was noted on all section of electromotives 3ES4K.

From September 2020 to March 2021, 97 cases of impermissible voltage overloading above 4500 V with a duration of at least 10 ms were noted. Upon that impermissible overvoltage with an amplitude of more than 7500 V were noted at a standard value of 4000 V.

Only in response to protection unit converters PSN235 Y2 keep working. At the same time operational life of IGBTs PSN235 Y2 significantly reduces.

It should be noted that the noted impermissible overvoltage also significantly reduces the operational life of the traction motor and other high-voltage devices of electromotives 3ES4K.
